Tony Conza is the dad of WOOF Patrol Mascot, Pomo. Tony is the Founder of the Blimpie sandwich chain. His years of experience in the restaurant business led him to believe the way to one's heart is through food. Pomo agrees. One night over dinner he sat down and compiled what WOOF Patrol has since and most appropriately tagged "Little Bites".

    Lieutenant Colonel George Custer (1839-1876) always traveled with a pack of about 40 dogs - greyhounds and stag hounds which are similar to the Scottish deerhound. It is reported that after the devestation at the Battle of the Little Bighorn (June 25-26, 1876), the dogs found a home with the mayor of Dodge City, Kansas.     The English bull terrier was the mascot of the American pilots in World War II.     British artist, David Hockney (1937 -) published "Dog Days", a book of paintings and drawings of his 2 dogs Stanley and Boodgie, both dachshunds. "The dogs are my little friends," he wrote in the introduction.    
According to the A.S.P.C.A., if your dog were to bite a person, you have no legal obligation to remain at the scene of the accident. Notwithstanding, by leaving, though you avoid liability, you deprive the victim of the ability to determine if the dog had rabies (even though you know it's not the case) which means he or she may have to undergo a series of painful inoculations. So morally and ethically, you should stay.     The metro areas with the most dog parks per capita are (parks per 100,000 population): Portland, Oregon (11 - 1.9); San Francisco (27 - 3.6); Tampa (7 - 2.2); Seattle (11 - 1.9); Colorado Springs (7 - 1.9); Albuquerque (7 - 1.4)    
Netflix lists 378 movies related to dogs. Here are some: "Must Love Dogs"; "Reservoir Dogs"; "Alpha Dog"; "Dog Day Afternoon"; "Straw Dogs"; "Firehouse Dog"; "The Shaggy Dog"; "My Life As a Dog"; "Wag the Dog"; "Year of the Dog"; "The Dog Walker" Foods that you should avoid feeding your pup: avocados, chocolate, coffee or coffee items, onions and onion powder, garlic, grapes, raisins, macadamia nuts, alcoholic beverages, mold or spoiled foods, salt, fatty foods, tea, raw yeast dough and anything with xylitol in it (gum, candy, etc.)     The 132nd annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show will be held on February 11-12, 2008 at Madison Square Garden.     The 2006 most popular breeds are: 1. Labrador; 2. Yorkie; 3. German Shepherd; 4. Golden Retriever; 5. Beagle; 6. Dachshund; 7. Boxer; 8. Poodle; 9. Shih Tzu; 10. Miniature Schnauzer    
Gracie, Oprah Winfrey's 2-year-old Golden Retriever died May 26. While out with her two other Golden siblings under the care of a dog walker, Gracie swallowed a clear ball which belonged to Winfrey's 12 year-year-old cocker spaniel Sophie. Oprah wrote, "I thought we'd grow old together. This dog lived every moment as though it were her last." In the August Peace of Mind issue of O Magazine, Oprah shares with readers in how Gracie's death brought to her a gift. "I don't believe in accidents. I know for sure that everything in life happens to help us live." In Oprah's case it meant slowing down. WOOF Patrol sends our sympathy to Oprah and her family. To submit your pooch picture to www.woofpatrol.com for a possible feature story.     On August 31st, Hollywood, Florida celebrates Dog Days of Summer with a trial dog beach. The designated area is between Pershing and Custer. Dog owners are reminded and expected to practice sanitation savvy by picking up after their dogs. If you notice a forgetful owner that has overlooked his or her responsibility, do the job. Keep dogs and their owners in good standing with the beach community. For more information about Dog Beach of Hollywood, visit http://www.dboh.org/.     On July 17th, the federal grand jury indicted Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick on charges related to dog fighting. The Humane Society has created a page providing information on what you can do to help end dog fighting. Vick faces $350,000 in fines and six years in prison if convicted of the charges.     Pet Fashion Week 2007 in New York City hits the catwalk August 18-19th. Nearly 200 exhibitors will showcase pet apparel, accessories and other lifestyle items, such as bedding and travel gear.
