Tony Conza is the dad of WOOF Patrol Mascot, Pomo. Tony is the Founder of the Blimpie sandwich chain. His years of experience in the restaurant business led him to believe the way to one's heart is through food. Pomo agrees. One night over dinner he sat down and compiled what WOOF Patrol has since and most appropriately tagged "Little Bites".

Madison Square Park Conservatory unleashed Artist William Wegman's public art video installation entitled Around the Park. Bobbin, Penny and Candy, his cinematic Weimaraners, took on challenging roles like: Park rangers on the job driving gas-powered gators, Shake Shack canine-counter workers, a Wall Street-type taking a moment to enjoy nature, a couple enjoying a picnic and many others that seamlessly blend into the park's landscape. The lunchtime retrospective starts daily at 1pm and will be available for all to enjoy until October 28, 2007. For more information go to www.madisonsquarepark.org.
When he was growing up, Elvis Presley was not permitted to have a dog. But eventually dogs assumed an important role in his life. At his first public appearance at the Alabama-Mississippi Fair when he was 10, Elvis sang "Old Shep" a song about a boy and his dog. There wasn't a dry eye in the audience and he won 5th prize. In 1956 he had the mega hit "Hound Dog" and in 1958 he got his first dog "Sweet Pea". Later on Presley had Great Danes, poodles and a Chow Chow who appeared with him in Las Vegas in 1975.     David Michaelis' life story of the creator of Snoppy will be released by Harper Collins on October 1st.     4 new breeds will be added to Westminster this year bringing the total to 169. Look forward to seeing the following at Westminster Kennel Club 2008: Plott (hound class), Tibetan Mastiff (working class), Beauceron and Swedish Vallhund (both in the herding class).     According to Puppies Behind Bars, a $65,000 investment is required to train and care for a dog to be able to detect explosives in the States. The number grows to $100,000 for dogs that will be placed overseas.
Jim Stevenson, the 54-year-old founder of Galveston Ornithological Society is on trial for felony cat murder. The jury must decide if he was within his rights to shoot a cat who was about to kill a bird. The American Bird Society Conservancy claims cats kill hundred of millions of birds.     Apparently one of the only things that made Leona (the Queen of Mean) Helmsley smile was her Maltese "Trouble". The billionaire owner of such highly visible real estate and hotels like the Park Lane and the Helmsley Palace, left no money to 2 of her 4 grandchildren ("reasons which are known to them") but $100,000 to her chauffer, $10 million to her brother and $12 million to Trouble. Does Trouble pay taxes on her inheritance? If so and she refuses could she too, like mom, face jail/cage time?     Commerce Bank has posted BYOD (Bring Your Own Dog) signs in their windows. The bank figured out that dog owners are good customers.
J. Crew is planning to sell collars, leashes and other dog accessories under the name "Crewmutts". The items are expected in their stores for Christmas.     The last place where a dog could accompany you to a movie in Buffalo is gone. The Buffalo Drive-In closed in September. On 1958, there were 4000 drive-ins in America. Today there are 400.     40% of Del Monte's 2007 sales of $3.4 billion came from pet products. Some of their brands include: Pup-Peroni, Meow-Mix, Kibbles'n Bits, 9 Lives, Milk-Bone, Gravy Train, Meaty Bone and Jerky Treats.     Osseointegration, a method wherein a porous metal implant is attached directly to the bone which then grows around the implant, has worked for humans and animals including a puppy in England.     You can't get a cat, a rabbit or a fish to fetch, but dogs fetch for complex reasons rooted in the relationship between dogs and people formed over centuries of co-existence, breeding, training, and daily interactions.     The cast of Broadway's "Legally Blonde" features 2 dogs: Bruiser (real name: Chico, a Chihuahua) and Rufus (a bulldog named Chloe).     Currently, Venus Williams owns 3 dogs: Aorangi, a Havanese and Harry and Winston, both Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. When asked by New York Magazine how she would spend $1.4 million, Williams' responded that she'd head straight to American Kennels to get another Havanese, and Cavalier King Charles, and add a Yorkie, Maltese and bulldog. The cost for 5 additions to the Venus pooch pack would be $15,700 and that's prior to dog beds, sweaters, leashes and leads.     Could it be that the reason people live longer in Mediterranean countries is not because they drink more wine nor consume more olive oil; it's because they are allowed to bring their dogs into restaurants?     Westin Hotels are not only being dog-friendly, they're cashing in on it. The "Heavenly Dog" line offers a bed for $225, leashes from $25 to $30 and collars from $20 to $30 (westin.com/store).

Danny's restaurants include: Union Square Café, Gramercy Tavern, Tabla, Blue Smoke, Eleven Madison Park, Shake Shack, The Modern, Café 2 and Terrace. Meyers was on hand at the Wegman Around the Park reception held in Madison Square Park. Shake Shack supplied burgers, hot dogs and of course, shakes for the event.
