WOOF-LUVABLES
Dogs love us unconditionally. There's no pretense or agendas. No complaints. They never fail to greet us at the door with passionate exuberance-even if we just left the room for five minutes to take out the trash-and they simply put us in a better mood.

Best dog run advice given or provided?
"Penny was having a challenge with housebreaking. She had a piddle pattern that needed to be corrected. Every time she saw the leash come out she'd run around our Miami Beach apartment. We'd catch her, but then she'd make on the floor. Picking her up and carrying her out the door worked on occasion, but the moment her paws hit the elevator or lobby surface, she'd pee."

"We decided to hire a trainer. The books, in theory, were helpful, but in practice didn't they work for us. We decided to go with a personal pooch trainer, more for us, than Penny. She seemed happy go lucky, but we were at our wits end.

Lana Kaufman: Richard and Diane had created the "Gotcha" game with Penny. With "Gotcha", dogs figure out that they must keep away. When they are caught they respond with submissive urination.

My role in the Mandel household was to change the game. When the leash was brought out I sat on the floor with it. Next, I called Penny over to me. She was curious and I waited for her to come because now we were playing the "Waiting" game. After a few moments she strutted over and we headed out the front door. There was no piddle before we hit the grass. Then she was encouraged to, "Go pee."

What we learn from our dog? Be kind to everyone.

Likely Quote from Penny: "There's never enough time in the day to say 'hello' to everyone."

Penny's Hobby: Penny loves to look up at the sky. She's fascinated by the billowing clouds that seemingly are nestled into cornflower-blue sky. Watching airplanes is her favorite pastime.

Friends in the Hood: Sara, male German Shepherd with a girl's name, Tyler, a Bichon Frise and Lulu, a way cool Scottie.

Penny's Arfstrology Sign: Gemini - (Born on June 10th, 2005)
