Kelly DeAngelis & Owen

WOOF Patrol met up with Kelly DeAngelis in the middle of Washington Square Park, NYC. Over a year ago our pups met in the dog run and ever since we shared many things such as dog trainer and doggie etiquette tips.

WOOF Patrol is not just in South Beach, Florida or New York. We have members in California, Hawaii and even Alaska. What is a WOOF Patroller?

DEFINITION OF A WOOF Patroller according to the Dogtionary:

Pronunciation: - Pronunciation: usually with prolonged vowel:

1: Compassionate, considerate and civic-minded pet owner that picks up after the dog.

2: Traveler and adventurer that recognize premier pet-friendly hotels, parks, beaches, rest areas, welcome centers along Interstate highways and other canine-centric destinations. (Patrollers love to inform us about their findings; then we write about them.)

3: Owner of canine oriented artwork of current and past dog loves that are displayed at home, on stationery and on foreheads.

4: Dog-matic movie watcher that has seen some or all of the following more than once: Best in Show, Lassie Come Home, 101 Dalmatians, The Adventures of Rin Tin Tin, Benji, Eight Below

5: One who is always prepared to offer a fido-sanitation bag to those that may have forgotten theirs.

6: Keeper of at least one dog sweater.

Going back to law school was a big decision for twenty-five year old Kelly DeAngelis and so was getting Owen. I knew my schedule would be both demanding and challenging. At the end of the day I wanted to be able to come home and have a wagging tail to greet me.

TRAINING and PUPPY SOCIALIZAION:

Kelly DeAngelis: Owen is beyond cute and early on housebreaking went fairly well. He also excels at fetch and knows where every toy's squeaking feature is. However, soon enough his housebreaking fell apart. Around that time Yvonne, WOOF Patrol Founder, and I, met at a dog run where Owen peed on her.

Pomo and Owen clicked and Yvonne shared the name of her trainer. That afternoon I called touched base with Kate Perry, Founder of Kate Perry Dog Training and owner of Pooch Pals, a dog-walking service.

Under Kate's guidance, I learned that Owen needed me to take on more defined leadership skills. I needed to become the pack leader of our household. Kate explained by nature, dogs are pack animals with a well-defined social order. Owen's behavior was stemming from his need to understand the rules.

The first rule established: "Peeing outside or on the wee-wee pad, not anywhere you please" Things in the DeAngelis household are back on track. Owen can be seen around Manhattan, well-behaved and sporting a trend-setting Mohawk haircut. The eye-catching Mohawk is Owen's trademark and the new Village must-have cuts for pups.

Whether in New York, South Beach or elsewhere, WOOF Patrol members are always: "Leashing Up and Picking Up and Keeping Our Cities, Beaches and Country Bow-Wow Clean."
