Marley & Me movie-mania has taken over Miami. Lori Wyman, principal and extra casting director of feature films, television and commercials (Analyze This, Wild Things, Dexter and C.S.I.: Miami) is enjoying working on the film. Lori Wyman Casting is in charge of hiring the extras for this dog-centric film based on the best-selling book by John Grogan. Wyman: “Every day the production has different Miami-scapes they’re shooting in. Extras are being cast in beach, shopping as well as street scenes. Everyone is having a good time.” Lori Wyman Casting has had to hire their own extras to keep up with the 1000 plus head shots that come in everyday. The local economy is also enjoying extras in the way of financial gains. “Marley & Me out of town film crew require lodging, food and gas for their rental cars. Partaking in South Beach nightlife for visitors a must as well as another financial gain for the city. Other basics like dry cleaning, catering for cast and extras and much more adds up to a big win for Miami,” stated Wyman. Ali, Lori’s six-year-old daughter, may soon go into casting as well. She’s looking to add to the family what she calls a “CHOO - ALA” (Chihuahua). Wyman’s husband is leaning towards a Boxer. WOOF Patrol chimed in suggesting a star power breed like a Shih Tzu for the Wyman family or perhaps as an office mascot.
Jennifer Aniston co-stars with Owen Wilson in Marley & Me. She’s rumored to have asked that one of her dogs be given a walk-on part. If that’s the case look for Norman, Welsh corgi-terrier mix or Dolly, her snow-white German Shepherd. Owen Wilson portrays John Grogan in the movie. In 2006, Wilson told co-anchor Harry Smith on The Early Show that his free spirit character Dupree from the film You, Me and Dupree was a bit like Nutmeg, a Dalmation, he had growing up. “There was a little bit of Nutmeg in Dupree. He was a free spirit. Didn’t like to be on a leash. Would tear up my mother’s laundry when she’d have it hanging in the backyard. But we all came to love the dog.” Wilson owns an Australian cattle dog named Garcia. No word if his pooch is on the Marley and Me set or even in Miami. However, looks like there’s no dog-less moments for Wilson on this shoot.

Just before he died from a heart attack, Kirk Osborn, one of the defense attorneys in the 2006 Duke Lacrosse Rape Case, wrote these words in a journal that his wife Tania had given him to record on a daily basis things for which he was thankful: 1. I have the freedom to choose my thoughts. 2. That I dare to choose better thoughts. 3. I can create my own world. 4. The beauty of our children. 5. The joy in our new puppy Bemus when he greets us in the morning. In the case, the three accused lacrosse players were proven innocent. Prosecuting District Attorney Michael Nifong was disbarred.

In 1925 sledder, Gunnar Kaassen and a relay of “mushers” led by Balto, carried the serum necessary for an outbreak of diphtheria from Anchorage to Nome, almost a thousand miles away. Balto became a national hero and a statue was erected in his honor in Central Park, NY. In 1995 Balto was commemorated by an animated film, “Balto".
