Francine Segal: Starring Role in Barking Success of the Pet-Friendly Beach Walk
|
"Dogs are indigenous to South Beach," said Francine Segal. She was one of more than 40 dog lovers that packed City Hall, February 22nd, 2006, to fight for canines' rights to stroll on the Miami Beach walkway.
Quoted by the Miami Herald, respected by City Hall Officials and applauded by fellow dog lovers and pet enthusiasts she added, "It's a pet-friendly city. We're known for it."

Our community owes a great deal of thanks to Francine and Bogie, her sag card carrying Maltese. On a daily basis, morning and evening, at times on bike and with others on foot, she continues to conscientiously patrol the walkway. She makes beach walk passersby (those with and without dogs) aware of the need for pawsitive doggie etiquette. It goes beyond the scope of "poop patrol". She encourages visitors and tourists from around the world to be aware of environmental concerns specific to Miami Beach such as:
- The dunes being protected areas not to be walked on or used as garbage cans.
- Sea turtles come ashore and please not to disturb them.

WOOF Patrol recognizes her abilities as a champion community facilitator. Her ability to speak to anyone on any topic is both unparalleled and impressive. Francine doesn't seek attention, it seeks her. She is a glowing example of generosity and compassion. Describing herself as an actress, director and educator, we also note she is a humanitarian.

Francine and her husband Jerry are from New Orleans. No one needs to tell you what took place in their hometown. But we need to thank them both for reaching out and not only assisting family and friends, but also for helping to rescue dogs that were Katrina victims.
Thank you Francine . you are our first ever WOOF Patroller Extraordinaire embracing and unleashing the qualities that win Hearts, Minds and Tails every day and in many ways.
Francine Segal: WOOF Patrol's ARF Deco Historian
On January 13, 2007, over 250 dogs and their owners, surrounded by an additional pack of 100,000 Art Deco enthusiasts from around the world, took part in a pre-parade tailgate party.
Joined by Chinese delegates, South Beach's Boys and Girls Club members and many other spectators, a much entertained crowd suspended their belief to consider the existence of Fido-Tects and their canine contributions to the Arf Deco movement.
A compelling Arf Deco scripted lecture was delivered by Francine Segal, Miami Beach's foremost Arf Deco Historian. She explained that, "The artists and architects of the time were captivated by canine aesthetics. For example Greyhounds, for their expressive lines and curves, became the inspiration for Arf Deco buildings such as; The Tides, The Bently, The Cardozo and countless others that define Miami Beach landscape."
